Up to the summit of Ziria
There is no sea here — there is the mountain. Eight marked trails start from Trikala and the surrounding villages, climbing through the fir forest to the summit of Megali Ziria, at 2,374m.
Varnevo → Flambouritsa
A route through a valley that blooms with wild orchids in spring — worth a slow pace.
Plateau → 2nd Refuge → Summit
The classic ascent to the summit of Megali Ziria, 2,374m. On clear days the view reaches far beyond Corinthia.
Monastery of the Panagia → Kefalari
Follows the water — springs and streams the whole way, on a path trodden for years.
Kefalari → Lake Dasiou
A forest road. In winter, when snow closes the road to cars, it is the only way through.
Karya → Agios Nikolaos
A quiet route through untouched landscape, to the banks of the ancient river Olvios.
Ano Trikala → Perdikoula
Climbs along the ridge — from there, the sea and the surrounding peaks appear together.
Varnevo → Ridge → Cave of Hermes → Pouliou Ochthos
An easy walk with a view worth the stop. Exploring the cave itself needs climbing gear and a guide.
The refuges
Two mountain refuges operate on Ziria. Most trails lead to one of the two before the final climb to the summit.
Ziria SkyRace
Every year Mount Ziria hosts the Ziria SkyRace, a mountain running event with hundreds of participants.
